Infrastructure Support

What is infrastructure?
Infrastructure organisations provide help, support, training and information to frontline organisations so that they can deliver their services more effectively. These organisations provide support to voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations at regional, sub-regional and local levels.

Support given is either ‘generalist’ (a range of services provided to everyone) or ‘specialist’ (support to specific groups or specific types of advice). Local infrastructure organisations are also known as ‘second-tier’ organisations as they provide support to front-line or ‘first-tier’ organisations. They may also receive support themselves from regional or national infrastructure organisations which are also known as ‘third-tier’ organisations.

As the generalist regional infrastructure organisation for the sector, South West Forum plays a vital role in co-ordinating infrastructure funding streams, advocating for the sector and liaising with funding providers over developing funding strategies and programmes. South West Forum also co-ordinates the South West Strategic Infrastructure Partnership. .
